Director Update!

February 18, 2020

Hello All!

It's a busy week for Woodmont Bands and I could not be more excited!

  • To help us prepare for CPA, we are having Dr. Les Hicken, previous Director of Bands at Furman University, come in and work with our groups! He will be here all day, so no matter what class you are in, he will be dropping knowledge for you to pick up!

  • Last Thursday, we had a Booster meeting to make up for the one cancelled due to weather. We discussed in great detail the upcoming CWEA event we are hosting. Also sent home was a proposed change to the Booster by-laws. We will be voting on these changes at the next meeting.

  • The guard competition that we host is happening THIS SATURDAY! If you wish to donate or volunteer (both of which we need and would love), please contact me or Mr. Henson!

  • Finally, today we are having a Chick-Fil-A fundraiser! Any online or mobile orders made at the Chick-Fil-A on Fairview Rd. will help go towards Woodmont Band Boosters! Please help us out and get some grub tonight!

  • Congrats to both the Winter Guard and Winter Percussion for their productive Saturday! They have been working super hard and their shows are really coming along!

  • Region band is almost upon us! Friday and Saturday, six of our students will be performing with the top student musicians in our region!

  • CPA is approaching fast: Mar. 19th! Please be sure to be encouraging your students to practice and try to achieve greatness! Also, don't forget to turn in the field trip form that was sent home last week.

I hope you all have a phenomenal week, and don't forget, WE ARE WOODMONT!

Senior & Middle School Night!

October 25, 2019

This Friday, Oct. 25th is Senior Night as well as our Middle School Night! In the Band Handbook, this game was just labelled as a home football game because we did not know the football schedule yet.

Senior Night is meant to be a celebration of our seniors and this year, we get to celebrate Drum Major Abigail Ladd, Color Guard Shakira Ford, Flute Olivia Hunt, and Percussion Alexa Miller! Please congratulate these seniors for their long journey through High School!

Middle School night is a time that we invite 7th and 8th graders from our feeder middle schools (Woodmont MS and Ralph Chandler MS) to sit in the stands and play with us during a home game. This is a great time to grow our numbers and to welcome new voices into the band! I am looking forward to filling the stands with lots of instruments this Friday during our last home game!

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Upperstate Update!

October 19, 2019

Due to the forecasted weather for tomorrow. SCBDA has decided that tomorrow's event will be held indoors. They encourage spectators and parents to only come and support their student’s band due to the lack of space in the gym. Tickets will be reduced to $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children. Seniors and officers will only be allowed in for the awards ceremony, parents and bands will need to exit the gym.

This is not an ideal situation, but according to SCBDA this was the only option other than canceling and ending the season early. Please try to be understanding, nice, and respectful to the event staff tomorrow. This decision was made to try and keep your students safe. I personally would not like to see our kids climbing the prop in the rain.

Thank you parents for everything you have done for us this season, and for being so flexible in everything we do.
