Message from Matthews

March 13, 2020

As some of you may know, yesterday CWEA Finals were cancelled for both percussion and guard. Also cancelled was our Concert Performance Assessment (CPA). This decision was made by the SCBDA in very trying times, and I applaude their work on keeping the best interest of our students at heart. Unfortunately, that does not lessen the impact it may have on the students who have worked so hard on preparing this music. Feel what you will feel, but don't forget to smile, laugh, and continue making music with dedication and joy in your sound.

I am so proud of all the hard work everyone has put forward in making truly wonderful music. I am excited to continue working towards our Spring Concert on May 11th!!!

We are not going to have rehearsal this upcoming Monday or Wednesday.

This year has been trying, but I am so glad to be with the Woodmont Band Family through it!

Director Update!

February 27, 2020

Hi All!

I hope things are going well for everyone! There has been a lot of planning going on at the school, so please be mindful of the dates!

  • CPA is coming fast! With that in mind, we need to schedule some after school rehearsals. Currently, I plan on having a rehearsal on March 11th, 16th, & 18th. The last after school rehearsal will be in the auditorium and I strongly encourage parents to attend! These rehearsals will be after school from 4pm-6pm. IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH THESE DATES PLEASE EMAIL ME!

  • Solo & Ensemble Registration is next week! The registration fee is $6.00 per students. I will collect that money starting on Tuesday. Remember that whatever you play, you need to have an original copy for the judge.

  • Those who are not doing Solo & Ensemble will still be working on a solo or group piece to perform in class for a major grade.

  • The Spring Symphonic Band Concert has been scheduled for May 11th! There will be an after school rehearsal the week before. Be on the lookout for further details.

  • The Spring Marching Band dates are still currently May 16, 18, & 19. The Saturday camp will be a pretty full day and will have some parent involvement! More detail will come as we get closer. (There is a Bands of Greenville County thing that is happening but I am awaiting more details before I move these dates).

  • Leadership/Drum Major auditions and camps will be happening 2 weeks after Spring Break. I will have more details about that once CPA and Winter Season have finished.

  • Congrats to the All Region Band students for a wonderful clinic and concert this last Saturday! Good luck to the All County Band students for your clinic today and concert tomorrow!

  • I am in the midst of recommending students for next year's band classes. If they are intertested in other music classes that require a recommendation, please let me know!

I am sure that I forgot something, so if you find a mistake or have any questions, feel free to email me!

Senior & Middle School Night!

October 25, 2019

ANNOUNCEMENT!

This Friday, Oct. 25th is Senior Night as well as our Middle School Night! In the Band Handbook, this game was just labelled as a home football game because we did not know the football schedule yet.

Senior Night is meant to be a celebration of our seniors and this year, we get to celebrate Drum Major Abigail Ladd, Color Guard Shakira Ford, Flute Olivia Hunt, and Percussion Alexa Miller! Please congratulate these seniors for their long journey through High School!

Middle School night is a time that we invite 7th and 8th graders from our feeder middle schools (Woodmont MS and Ralph Chandler MS) to sit in the stands and play with us during a home game. This is a great time to grow our numbers and to welcome new voices into the band! I am looking forward to filling the stands with lots of instruments this Friday during our last home game!

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Upperstate Update!

October 19, 2019

Due to the forecasted weather for tomorrow. SCBDA has decided that tomorrow's event will be held indoors. They encourage spectators and parents to only come and support their student’s band due to the lack of space in the gym. Tickets will be reduced to $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children. Seniors and officers will only be allowed in for the awards ceremony, parents and bands will need to exit the gym.

This is not an ideal situation, but according to SCBDA this was the only option other than canceling and ending the season early. Please try to be understanding, nice, and respectful to the event staff tomorrow. This decision was made to try and keep your students safe. I personally would not like to see our kids climbing the prop in the rain.

Thank you parents for everything you have done for us this season, and for being so flexible in everything we do.
